What does it feel like to be an artist!

If you haven't been here before, welcome! My name is Irsa and I am proud to say that I am an artist. I wanted to be an artist all my life but for many reasons I was directed onto a different path.

Art for me is like breathing, it can be confusing when you are young and don't quite fit in the world and the only way to live and express yourself is by drawing. I have always been different, I have a different sense of humour, I notice things that other people don't even notice. When I look at something, I see colours, I like the way different colours sit against each other in nature. I sometimes find myself focusing or looking at things way too much. I am also very sensitive (I've been told its a bad thing) and I prefer to live my life without much contact with others but yet I am not lonely. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate human contact but the majority of the time, I am  happy being in my own company. It can be because I am an introvert but I think that heightened sensitivity to the world is what defines my artistic personality. 

Being an artist is about being free and fearless. There are no limits to what you can accomplish as an artist. That is why I use so many different mediums in my work, if I get stuck and realise that I can't express myself, I try using another medium. I implement this into my daily life too... It's just like having a child, devote yourself to care for it and it will thrive, starve it and it will not grow. 

My only advice would be; If you intend to make your art into a career, you have to start young! Try and refine your skills and get into as many galleries as you can. Im not saying that it's too late to start late, some artists I know have started late and still managed to succeed! But, it's always nice to start young and experiment. 

Being an artist can be a challenging profession to be in, it requires a lot of time and skill sets in creating products, legalising and marketing. However, it's not impossible to make a six figure income as an artist. I know so many artists that are doing really well. Most people believe that you can’t make a living as an artist and yet most artists dedicate their time and energy to make a career with their art.
